Peter Kallos joined Buried Hill in 2010 as Chief Executive Officer and became Executive Chairman in January 2019. Prior to joining Buried Hill, Peter was Executive Vice President, International and Offshore for Petro-Canada, a position he held for six years. There he led and developed a significant international exploration and production business based in London which grew to account for more than half of Petro-Canada’s worldwide production. Following Petro-Canada’s merger with Suncor Energy in 2009, he remained in the same role for Suncor until the business was relocated to Canada in early 2010.
Preceding his tenure at Petro-Canada and a short period at Shell UK, Peter held roles at Enterprise Oil, Carless Exploration Ltd and Marathon Oil UK. Peter joined Enterprise Oil in 1988 where he held a number of senior management positions including Head of Business Development, CEO Enterprise Italy and General Manager of the UK business. In this role Peter was appointed to Enterprise’s Executive Committee.
He began his career as a Petroleum Engineer having completed an undergraduate degree in Applied Physics at Strathclyde University followed by a postgraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.
Mr. Kallos is the senior independent non-executive director of Cairn Energy PLC, a UK-based international oil and gas exploration and development company listed on the London Stock Exchange. He was also a trustee of the London Chamber Orchestra until 2017.
Hugh Leonard joined Buried Hill in 2005, where he has remained responsible for all the day-to-day and long-term technical and operational aspects of the business. He was promoted to Chief Executive Office in January 2019. Hugh has over thirty years of experience in the international exploration and production industry and, prior to joining Buried Hill, was Vice President, Acquisitions with PetroKazakhstan, a Central Asia-focused company. Before joining PetroKazakhstan, Hugh spent twelve years working for Enterprise Oil Plc, where he was responsible for developing Enterprise’s Russia strategy in his role as New Business Manager for the Former Soviet Union. While at Enterprise, Hugh was seconded for three years to work in Moscow as Executive Vice President of the Khanty Mansiysk Oil Corporation (KMOC), a US independent operating in West Siberia.
Hugh has also worked for Burmah Castrol Plc, Carless Exploration Ltd, and Kelt UK Ltd, where he was Drilling Manager. He has worked across a range of jurisdictions spanning the UK, West Africa, USA, Australia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Russia and Kazakhstan, and has acquired wide E&P experience across a numbers of areas including business development, sub-surface evaluation, commercial and financial reporting, HSEQ, and operations.
Jeff Collins joined Buried Hill in 2013 where, in his role as Chief Financial Officer, he is responsible for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the business. Jeff has more than 20 years of experience in finance having previously worked as General Accounting Manager with responsibility for accounting and control for Suncor Energy’s international and offshore business, and with Iron Mountain Europe, where he was responsible for the consolidation of financial information for all subsidiaries, acquisition accounting and technical accounting pronouncements across 18 jurisdictions. Prior to that he held a number of managerial roles with Deloitte, specialising in the provision of external and internal audit, risk management and financial advisory services.
Jeff is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant and holds B.Comm and B.A. degrees from Queen’s University, Canada and an M.A. (Philosophy) from King’s College, UK. Jeff values volunteering and is currently acting as a Trustee for EHE Rare Cancer Charity (UK) and a governor of a local school.
